Inouye Institute Fund and the University of Hawaiʻi announces the Library of Congress distinguished lecture series which highlights the importance Dan Inouye placed on bipartisanship and moral courage. The first lecture will address shared values in U.S. foreign policy, with speakers Madeleine Albright and Colin Powell, moderated by Ann Compton.

While not all damage from the past recession has been repaired, by many measures economic activity in the state is returning to normal.

The geography department in the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa has launched a new, interactive water resource management website on evapotranspiration that, when added to the existing Rainfall Atlas of Hawaiʻi website, will form a family of products providing critical information on the state’s average climate and water processes.

CSS Spotlight Daniel K. Inouye Center for Democratic Leadership

The College of Social Sciences is the academic lead for the programmatics that will comprise the Daniel K. Inouye Center for Democratic Leadership (DKI Center). The center will honor the work and legacy of the highest-ranking Asian American politician and second-longest serving U.S. Senator, after Robert Byrd, in United States history. Upon completion, DKI Center programs will commemorate the significant role that Senator Inouye played in shaping America, Hawai‘i, and the Asia Pacific region.

APDR3 Indonesia Symposium - June 2013

The APDR3 delegation studies laharic (mud and debris) flows from the Mount Merapi eruptions, as Gadjah Mada University representatives describe a multidisciplinary program developed in conjunction with the University of Hawai’i’s Pacific Disaster Center to support early warning systems that combine the latest technologies with community practices. Such partnerships and concepts have been the central focus of discussion at the APDR3 Symposium in Indonesia.
